Triathlon England announce new strategy at AGM
14th November 2013After much anticipation Triathlon England unveiled its new strategy at their Annual General Meeting on 9 November to English members who had turned out in force to find out how the strategy may benefit the sport.
The strategy, a result of an extensive consultation that took place in the summer, has a heavy emphasis on participation, capacity and customer focus which has been distilled into a new vision for Triathlon England in “helping everybody to discover, enjoy and achieve in triathlon.”
To realise this vision five strategic “propositions” have been agreed which will be the priority action’s helping the Home Nation governing body bring their vision to life over the remaining funding cycle. Two of the priorities will focus on developing a better customer service relationship with event organisers and triathlon clubs respectively; one will be to overhaul the current membership offer, making it more compelling for existing and potential new members; another area will be the development and delivery of a no-frills event and training package called GO TRI and the final “proposition” is to create a culture of communication to underpin all working practices.
Mark Barfield, Triathlon England’s Executive Director added: “Our new strategy demonstrates that we have listened to our members’ feedback and all the team are passionate to put the findings into practice. Launching our new strategy at our AGM in front of our membership was a brilliant opportunity to receive some early feedback, which I am delighted to say, has been overwhelmingly positive.”
Ian Payne, 50, a member in attendance from Rugby commented directly after hearing the strategy: “The strategy presentation was good and it did make a lot of sense, especially the part about trying to attract new members, as this is an interesting problem that needs addressing.”
A bumper turn-out to learn about the new strategy was helped by the opportunity for English members to take part in six workshops on a range of triathlon areas. This included an onsite Q&A session with eight regional head coaches and twenty five current members of the English Talent Squad.
Triathlon England member Michelle Mahiques–Pearce, 39, from Coventry Tri Club reflected on the whole day and said: “It was great to be invited and find out what our governing body will be focussing on. I was impressed with the new strategy, it has a modern feel, and the priorities identified within it all seemed very positive, particularly the new GO TRI concept.”
