Comeback win over Egypt for England Under-21 Men

SIX unanswered second half goals helped England Under-21 Men battle back from a half time deficit and secure their first win at the Hero Hockey Junior World Cup in New Delhi, India, on Thursday.
“It was an excellent second half,” said England Head Coach John Bleby. “It panned out as we thought it would if we just kept pressing, but we’re keeping our feet firmly on the ground because we’ve got another important game on Saturday.”
Egypt took the lead after just ten minutes through a field goal from Ramy Mohamed as they broke away following a turnover, and held that lead to the break as England struggled to score despite having the majority of possession and a couple of good chances.
The breakthrough came on 41 minutes, and James Gall was the scorer. A good move down the right hand side and some good inter-passing between Chris Proctor and David Goodfield led to Gall scoring at the far post.
Three minutes later Luke Taylor scorer from a penalty corner with a hard drag-flick under the Egyptian goalkeeper.
Nick Bandurak scored his first goal on 48 minutes, pushing home from just two metres after a circle melee, and David Goodfield added his name to the scoresheet on 51 minutes when he got a touch on a James Gall shot.
Bandurak’s second goal came on the hour mark, scoring from the rebound after Phil Roper’s shot had rebounded off the goalkeeper. And the sixth goal came on 66 minutes, captain Andy Bull firing in a shot from the top of the D to cap a great performance which earned him the man of the match award.
England will now play either Spain or Canada in the 13/14th place play-off match at 10am (GMT) on Saturday.
