Jack Buckner appointed as the new CEO of British Triathlon
30th May 2014British Triathlon can today (Friday 30 May) announce that Jack Buckner has been appointed as its new Chief Executive Officer.
Jack is a Loughborough University graduate who competed in the 5000m at the Seoul and Barcelona Olympic Games. He also won the European Championships over the same distance in 1986 in what is still a Championship record time of 13:10.15. Jack went on to work for adidas in a range of roles in the UK, Germany and the USA where he was their Marketing Director. Jack returned to the UK in 2002 and has since held several roles in sport. He has worked for Sport England for the past five years where he has been a Strategic Lead in the National Governing Body team and most recently led on market development for the organisation.
On announcing his appointment, Ian Howard TD, President of British Triathlon said: “We are delighted that triathlon has attracted such a high calibre individual to lead our sport. We believe Jack’s unique credentials which include Olympic representation, a strong commercial background and an understanding of the sporting landscape in the UK at both British and Home Nation level will help him lead our dynamic and highly aspirational sport to Rio and beyond.”
Jack said: “I am delighted to be appointed the new CEO of British Triathlon. Triathlon is an exciting and innovative sport, and British Triathlon under Zara Hyde Peters’ leadership has led the sport from the front in recent years. British Triathlon is a consistently high-performing National Governing Body in all areas and I’m looking forward to continuing this work. I have been impressed by the culture within British Triathlon, the Home Nations and across the sport and intend to keep up the good work and support the spirit of collaboration that exists within the triathlon community.”
Supporting the appointment, Jem Lawson, Chair of Triathlon England commented: "Jack has an impressive array of competencies and great breadth and depth of experience in the sporting landscape of Great Britain. I'm delighted that he has agreed to take British Triathlon and Triathlon England (TE) forward and to help TE become an outstanding sports membership organisation."
