THE COACHES

The club has British Gymnastics trained coaches in Pre-School, General Gymnastics, Artistic, Sports Acrobatics and Special Needs, as well as a number of trainee parent and gymnast coaches who all help out at most sessions.

Our policy is gymnastics for all and in this we strive to give all our members an equal opportunity to achieve their personal best whether they want to gain  the necessary skills to gain  rewards through the British Gymnastics various badge schemes or compete at competitions suited to their level of ability.

The Eastern Region General Gymnastics Competition Programme is an extensive one which includes competitions for Rhythmic,  General  individual apparatus based on the badge schemes; Partner work;  Trampette;  Tumbling as well as Special Needs floor and vault.

Galaxy’s coach Keith Warne is the Chairman of the Eastern Region General Gymnastics Committee and the Club has always been heavily involved in this programme as it truly gives an opportunity for every child who wants to compete the chance to do so.

GYM-MINIS

PRE-SCHOOL GYMNASTICS AND MOVEMENT FOR UNDER 5's

These classes are specially designed to enable young children to experience essential movement and learning skills through play.

Activities that stimulate growth and development including both mentally and physically stimulating play both with the use of hand held and larger apparatus.  The skills developed  include walking, running, hopping, skipping, jumping, climbing, throwing, balancing and landing.

Energetic activities to music with mind developing rhymes the children can sing along to are also part of the programme and these encourage social interaction between parents and children and other.

4 PLUS

These classes are for children 4 years and over when they are ready to attend a class without a parent - a progression from Gym-Minis helping children to gain confidence and work within a small group. These introduce children to the basic gymnastic skills in order that they can gain more confidence and body awareness.

BADGE CLASSES

These are the classes designed for children who have little or no experience of gymnastics and are a good ground for introducing the basic skills needed for the British Gymnastics Badge Scheme.  Classes are based on ages rather than level of abilities and as they develop the basic skills they are invited to join other classes whereby they can compete at various levels in the Eastern Region General Gymnastics Competition Programme if they so wish.

ARTISTIC GYMNASTICS

This is a branch of the sport which  most people are familiar with as it’s based on the four women's and six men's pieces of apparatus such as is seen in the Olympics. Children picked to train in the artistic squads  must be prepared to train at least three to four sessions per week in order to attain the necessary skills to complete in this discipline.  However the younger gymnasts are encouraged to complete at lower levels for county and regional competitions, but these are harder than the general programme.

SPORTS ACROBATICS

This is a branch of the sport which some children favour as it is mostly involves partner work including floor agilities, balances and dance and they can compete with a partner or in groups of three.  Tumbling is also included in this discipline and all levels can be catered for in this from the child who can perform neat rolls and cartwheels to the more experienced ones who can  flic and somersault

ADULT CLASSES

On a Wednesday night the club has an adult class which caters from young people aged 16 plus through to any age.  They are taught all the same skills as the younger gymnasts and most achieve much more than ever thought possible
