Brilliant Turner steers England into second place
11th July 2013A brilliant round of seven-under-par 64 from Lincolnshire’s Ashton Turner saw England qualifying in second place in the European Boys Team Championships at Murcar Links in Scotland.
Turner, was backed by 67 from Cumbria’s Adam Chapman as the England boys recorded a second day tally of 351 to go with their opening 367 to finish on eight over overall, just three strokes behind leading qualifiers Italy.
With the five best scores to count each day, England’s other second day contributors were Bradley Moore with 72 plus 74s from Harry Ellis and Marco Penge.
Turner’s perfect 64 contained seven birdies and no dropped shots and he came home in 31 strokes, while Chapman suffered his only bogey at the fifth but returned five birdies in the closing seven holes for an inward 30.
Having qualified in second place, England now face seventh-placed Ireland in today’s (Thursday) opening match play round of two morning foursomes and five singles in the afternoon. In the other matches, Italy play Sweden, France take on Denmark, while Norway face Scotland.
