Ten titles won and records smashed on day two of Bergen 2025

19th July 2025

Sensational men's long jump and women's hammer finals, blistering sprint finals, another German medal sweep, a record-breaking 800m heat and a wildly fluctuating decathlon were among an astonishing second day's action at the Bergen 2025 European Athletics U23 Championships on Friday (18).

France's Erwan Konate rediscovered the golden touch that won him two world U20 titles to win the men's long jump ahead of European indoor champion Bozhidar Sarâboyukov with a new national U23 record.

Aileen Kuhn won a brilliant women's hammer final in which all three medallists went over 70 metres, setting a new personal best. Her German team-mates, led by winner Steven Richter went 1-2-3 in the men's discus.

In two hard fought 100m finals, France's Jeff Erius and Czechia's Karolina Manasová emerged as gold medallists.

Ireland's Anika Thompson (women's 10,000m), Austria's Enzo Diessl (men's 110m hurdles), Poland's Alicja Sielska (women's 100m hurdles), Romania's Alexia Ioana Dospin (women's triple jump) and Switzerland's Andrin Huber (decathlon) won their nation's first gold medals of Bergen 2025.

Huber fought back from being seventh after four events and fourth overnight, whilst overnight leader Roko Farkas of Croatia no-heighted in the pole vault to drop out of contention. Home hope Henriette Jaeger kept up her relentless medal chase, progressing in both the women's 200m and 400m.

There was also a staggering men's 800m heat in which the first six finishers were all inside the previous championship record held since 1999. Italy's Francesco Pernici led the dash to Sunday's final.
