by 8th May 2026
UK Athletics can announce the Novuna Great Britain and Northern Ireland team for the Trail, Up-and-Down, and Uphill disciplines at the European Off-Road Running Championships in Slovenia from 5-7 June.
The senior women’s Up-and-Down team will be hoping to defend the European team gold won at the last Championships in Annecy in 2024, with Scout Adkin (club:Ambleside AC, coach:Angela Mudge) and Naomi Lang (Carnethy HRC/ Glasgow Uni, Lewis Walker) returning from that victorious squad. The women’s Uphill team will aim to improve on their team bronze from 2023, where Adkin secured individual silver.
The senior Uphill men’s team features Jacob Adkin (Moorfoot Runners, Robbie Simpson), the 2024 European Uphill silver medallist, providing valuable championship experience.
The selected squad will join athletes previously named for the Trail event.
The men’s team is Ben Rothery (Ilkley, Sarah McCormack), Luke Grenfell-Shaw (Lonely Goat RC, Lewis Moses), Bertie Houghton (Hallamshire, Lewis Moses) and Alexander Chepelin (Carnethy Hill RC, Sophie Dunnett).
On the women’s trail team Scarlet Dale (Ambleside AC, Mark Croasdale), Eve Pannone (Ambleside AC, David Roche), Kirsty Oldham (Dundee Hawkhill Harriers) and Emily Cowper-Coles (Rotherham Harriers/Dark Peak) will take to the mountains.
Several athletes will make their senior GB & NI debuts: Morven Goodrum (Windsor Slough Eton & Hounslow, Sophie Mullins), Tom Spencer (Dark Peak Fell Runners), Thomas Hilton (Edinburgh University Hares and Hounds), Tom Wood (Eryri Harriers, Matt Seddon) and Kirsty Oldham (Dundee Hawkhill Harriers).
Team Leader, Anne Buckley said:
“There were some high-quality performances in the trial races, so we are delighted to be adding such strong mountain runners to the team. Alongside our already selected Trail athletes, we are taking a really competitive squad to Slovenia to take on the rest of Europe.
“Alongside several experienced internationals, it is fantastic to see talented new athletes earning their place in the Great Britain and Northern Ireland squad.”
