Sold-out international event brings 500 athletes to Colonia Sant Jordi as the Balearic Championships return to Mallorca’s south coast

Colonia Sant Jordi, Mallorca – 23 May 2026 – The Universal Beach Hotels Mallorca Olympic Triathlon returns to Colonia Sant Jordi on Saturday 23 May for its 14th edition, once again bringing together athletes, supporters, families and visitors from around the world for one of Mallorca’s most established endurance sporting events.

The event, organised by BEST Centre Sports, has officially sold out, with 500 competitors travelling to Mallorca to compete across the Olympic distance course in the stunning surroundings of Colonia Sant Jordi. The race also serves as the Balearic Championships, attracting some of the strongest triathlon talent from Spain and internationally.

The event continues to play an important role for the local community and tourism sector, with hotels, restaurants and businesses across Colonia Sant Jordi benefiting from the arrival of hundreds of visitors during the weekend. Athletes and supporters from across Europe, South America and beyond will fill the town, creating a vibrant international atmosphere throughout the weekend.

Among the elite athletes returning this year are defending women’s champion Brooke Gilles and Brazilian star Miguel Hidalgo, one of the world’s leading short-course triathletes and a Sub-7 project athlete who has established himself on the international circuit with podium performances in World Triathlon competition. Racing for the Bianchi Pro Triathlon Team, Hidalgo is widely recognised for his explosive run speed and aggressive racing style, making him one of the headline athletes for the 2026 edition.

Also competing this year is Great Britain’s Daisy Davies, another athlete from the Bianchi Pro Triathlon Team. Davies has rapidly developed into one of Britain’s exciting young triathlon talents, known for her strong swim-bike combination and consistent performances on the European racing circuit. Her participation further strengthens an already competitive international field.

Following the race, athletes and spectators will gather for the traditional post-race paella celebration, one of the event’s most popular social moments and a chance for competitors and visitors to enjoy the atmosphere together after racing.

This year also marks the first edition with Universal Beach Hotels as title sponsor. The partnership brings together one of Mallorca’s leading hotel groups with one of the island’s best-known sporting events, reinforcing the shared commitment to sports tourism, international visitors and promoting Mallorca as a world-class destination for endurance sport.

The celebrations continue into the evening with Colonia Sant Jordi’s popular Tapas Night along Avenida Primavera, where locals and visitors come together to enjoy live atmosphere, food and music in the centre of town.

The Mallorca Olympic Triathlon also marks the beginning of an exciting week of open water swimming, leading directly into BEST FEST, one of the world’s premier open water swimming festivals, which starts on Sunday 24 May. BEST FEST attracts swimmers from across the globe and further cements Colonia Sant Jordi’s reputation as one of Europe’s leading destinations for endurance sport.

Organisers at BEST Centre Sports are expecting another memorable weekend of racing and celebration. Co-founder and director Matthew O’Connor said:

“The Mallorca Olympic Triathlon has become a major international event for Colonia Sant Jordi and for Mallorca. To see the event sold out again, with athletes travelling from all over the world, is fantastic for the town, local businesses and the sporting atmosphere we try to create every year. With the Balearic Championships, elite athletes, Universal Beach Hotels joining as sponsor and BEST FEST beginning straight afterwards, it promises to be a very special week.”
