Management

Oban Saints Football Club
Management Team
Season 2017 - 2018

The senior team is managed by three stalwarts. In charge of all round coaching and team affairs is ALEX CRAIK, who used to play for various teams in the central belt before moving to Oban to take up a teaching post in Oban High School. When Iain Jackson decided to call it a day as team manager after 20 years Alex was offered the post which he accepted. In his first year as manager Alex lifted  silverware in the form of the Jimmy Marshall Trophy after a 2-1 win over St Joseph's at Millbun Park, Alexandria. He also took the team to the semi-finals of the Scottish Amateur Cup only to be beaten 2-1 by Leven United at New Douglas Park, home of Hamilton Accies. Alex is no longer a regular starter but still keeps himself fit at training and sometimes takes his place on the bench if required. Alex is married to Carrie and they have two sons - Zander and Daniel.

Alex is ably assisted by PETER MacCALLUM who helps  with the preparation and coaching of the senior team. Peter is a former player with the club, and was also an accomplished shinty player with Oban Celtic. He is also a keen golfer. Peter offered to help out a few years ago (only for one season) when former manager Iain Jackson was studying for a law degree, but he was hooked, and has been with the team ever since. Peter is a janitor at Oban High School. He is married to Anne and has two sons Brian and Mark. They have a grandson Innes. Mark used to be one of the regulars in the Saints line-up before getting married to Lynn and moving to live in Nothern Ireland.

Taking charge of the secretarial, financial and publicity side of things at the club is DAVID BUCHANAN, a former Argyll Schools player and Scottish Schoolboy International trialist. He was a midfield player with Saints before taking over as manager, a role he did for over 20 years. David also played for Stirling Albion and Workington Town (English Third Division). They were managed by Keith Burkinshaw who  left to to take up the manager's job at Tottenham Hotspur FC. David's knowledge and organisational skills are well respected in football circles. He is the studio manager in the local newspaper The Oban Times and is married to Annie. They have three children, Scott, Kerry and Elaine and have seven grandchildren, Lewis, Erin, Ruairidh, Emma, Sophie, Abbie and Megan.
