Saints enjoy pre-season tour to the Isle of Uist

A PARTY of players, coaches and committee members from Oban Saints travelled to Uist on Saturday 24th July to take part in Southend Football Club's 50th anniversary celebrations.
The Oban side played two games over the weekend: On Saturday they played Southend for the Friendship Cup and on Sunday they played against a Uist Select.
The first game against Southend was played at Daliburgh and although it took Saints a while to get going they turned in a superb performance beating the local side 12-0 thanks to goals from Allan MacKay (3), Donald Campbell (2), Innes Paterson (2), Sean Ford, Chris Graham, Ross Maitland and probably the best goal of the game netted by former skipper Pele MacCallum who came on as a late substitute. Pele only kicked the ball once, but it ended up in the back of the net, what more can you ask.
The Friendship Cup was handed over to Keith Millar at the end of the game by former Southend skipper and manager Ronnie MacKinnon.
On the Saturday night both teams and supporters retired to St Peter's Hall where a meal, ceilidh and dance were held.
On the Sunday it was a very tired and emotional Saints outfit that left the Uist Bunkhouse to make the half hour trip to Liniclate Sports Centre to take on a Uist Select.
Credit to the players who actually managed to play (and not be sick on the touchline) as they fought back from 2-0 down to earn a hard-fought 2-2 draw. Netting for Saints were Donald Campbell  and Keith Millar.
The Oban club would like to thank sponsor Angus MacPhee of AMP Electrical Services for organising the trip and to everybody on Uist for their superb hospitality.

Saints presented Southend with a commemorative plaque and pennant to celebrate their 50th anniversary. Also in the picture is a bottle of Oban Saints 50th anniversary wine, the Friendship Cup and Medals.
