Oban Saints won the Argyll and Bute Cup for the fourth year in a a row when they defeated Dunoon 5-4 on penalties after the final had ended in a no scoring draw.
Eight teams took part and they were divided into two sections of four with the top two in each section qualifying for the semi-finals. Section One: Dunollie, Oban Saints, Balfron and Campbeltown Boys. Section Two: Lochgilphead Red Star, Oban Saints Under 19s, Dunoon and Tarbert.
Oban Saints and Campbeltown Boys qualified from Section One with Dunoon and Oban Saints Under 19s going through from Section Two
.
The first semi final saw both Saints teams in action with the senior boys going through by the only goal of the game scored by Darin Bryars in a closely fought encounter.
The scond semi-final saw Dunoon take on Campbeltown Boys with the men from Cowal qualifying for the final by the odd goal in three thanks to strikes from Fraser Lawford and George MacDonald. Gary Grumoli scored a consolation goal for the Boys.
The final was an excellent advert for football in Argyll but the scoreline remained deadlocked at the final whistle.
Saints scored their first four penalties taken by Steven MacLeod, Allan MacKay, Keith Millar and Duncan Campbell. Keeper David Dunlop saved the third Dunoon penalty which gave Mark MacCallum the opportunity to win the trophy for his team, but he skied his spot-kick over the bar. Dunoon scored to make the score 4-4 and put the pressure back on Saints, but Roy McLuckie calmly drilled his penalty home to gain the advantage again and when keeper Dunlop saved the next Dunoon penalty the handsome trophy was going to stay in Oban.
Tournament organiser David Buchanan thanked the five officials John Scott Jim Pearson, Stevie Reed, Alan MacGregor and Alan Munro before handing over the trophy to Oban Saints captain Graeme Niven.
